BIO

Tim Faherty is a painter fascinated with the coast of southern New Jersey.

He interprets that fascination in oil, acrylic and pastel, working to convey the life and light of this uniquely beautiful area.

Whether reflecting the mystery and power of the ocean or the interplay between sky, marsh and back bay, Faherty’s paintings often capture an energy. Sometimes that includes the energy of surfers, lifeguards and marine life.

“When I was growing up, our trips to the beach were rare. Coming to the shore was always a special adventure,” Faherty said. “I live here now, but the feeling’s the same. Being so close to nature just never gets old.”

For most of his career, Faherty was a journalist and graphic artist. His columns, graphics and illustrations for The Press of Atlantic City won many awards. His comic strip, “Just Add Walter,” was nationally syndicated by King Features. He is a summa cum laude graduate of Trenton State College, where he majored in English and minored in journalism and art.

When he’s not painting, Faherty can be found doing beach yoga, singing on the Boardwalk with The Shore Thing Band or paddling his kayak. He and his wife, Gayle, live in Upper Township. They have two adult daughters, Katie and Erin, and a far-from-adult dachshund/beagle mix, Darcy.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

“We are the only animals who communicate by creating images. Interpreting the world through art may be the most human thing we can do.”
