Vickie Mathas is a fine art fiber artist combining quilting techniques and art mediums to create expressions in fabric and surface design. “Totem Images”, her brand, represents her creative process. Added embellishments take a variety of forms that gives an extra pizzazz that catches the eye and ignites the imagination. Art quilts have evolved into the medium of her artistic expression. Combining drawing, painting and stitched surfaces with the quilting process creates her fiber art works.
Vickie’s formal education includes a B.A. in Art Education from Glassboro State College (now Rowan University) and a Masters of Arts Degree in Human Development from Fairleigh Dickinson University. She was a dual career artist for thirty two years teaching Art Education in the Mt. Laurel, NJ public schools and showing her art in juried shows, art centers and galleries. Vickie is now working as a full time studio artist.
Vickie is an Associate Artist at the Riverfront Renaissance Art Center in Millville, NJ, where she just won first place in a judged show. She holds membership in the Moorestown Area Quilters Guild and DKG, a society of Professional Women Educators International. Vickie provides lectures and workshops to quilting guilds and art organizations. She is also a published artist in two magazines and two art quilt books.
